My verification email hasn’t arrived

This is the most common problem, and it blocks the Fallacy Finder, Bias Checker and Writing Lab until it’s resolved.

• Check spam, junk, and any “Promotions” or “Updates” tab.
• Request a new link from the resend page. If several have arrived, only the newest one works.
• School, university and workplace mail filters are the usual cause. If a work or school address isn’t receiving it, try a personal address.
• Check the address for typos — the sign-up form can’t catch a valid address that simply isn’t yours.

If none of that works, contact us and we’ll verify the account by hand.

“Analysis failed. Please try again.”

The analysis didn’t complete. Usually it works on a second attempt. If it keeps happening:

• Try shorter text. Very long or unusually formatted input is the most common trigger.
• Check for stray formatting. Text pasted from a PDF or a heavily formatted document can carry odd characters and broken line breaks; pasting into a plain text editor first and re-copying often fixes it.
• Give it a moment. If the service is briefly busy, waiting a minute is usually enough.

My text is “too long”

Free accounts analyse up to 750 characters at a time in the Fallacy Finder and Bias Checker — roughly a short paragraph. Either shorten the passage, run it in sections, or upgrade to Pro for 10,000 characters. Note that the Writing Lab’s 750 is counted in words, not characters — see Plans & limits.

My PDF won’t upload

• Size. Free accounts accept PDFs up to 2 MB; Pro up to 10 MB.
• Scanned PDFs. A PDF that is really a photo of a page has no text to extract. If you can’t select the text in your PDF reader, neither can we — copy or retype the passage instead.
• Protected files. Password-protected or restricted PDFs can’t be read. Remove the protection and try again.

My document won’t save in the Writing Lab

If the status beside the title reads Save failed, the usual cause is the word limit. Free accounts save documents up to 750 words; Pro up to 10,000.

This catches people whose Pro subscription has ended: documents written while on Pro stay in your account and stay readable, but one longer than 750 words can’t be saved again until you resubscribe or shorten it. Your text is never lost — you can always select it in the editor and copy it out. See what happens when a subscription ends.

If the document is comfortably within the limit and saving still fails, check your connection and reload the page — your last saved version will still be there.

I can’t sign in

• Use password reset if the password isn’t being accepted.
• If you’re being sent back to a verification notice, the account exists but the email hasn’t been verified — see above.
• If sign-in appears to work but you’re immediately signed out, check that your browser is accepting cookies for this site. Private and strict-privacy modes sometimes block them.

I’ve run out of quizzes

Free accounts get 3 quizzes a day, resetting at midnight. Pro removes the limit.

Something looks wrong on the page

The site follows your system’s light or dark setting, and you can override it with the toggle in the header. If a page renders oddly, try switching the theme and doing a hard refresh. If it persists, tell us — including your browser and whether you were in light or dark mode.
